I’m not long back from a weekend at the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF), who were celebrating 20 years of ShAFF. I arrived late on Friday, as our team had car-shared our way down from Glasgow after a day in the office.

Cinema can bring together communities and define culture; the concept at its heart has done so for millennia. When Greeks gathered in the darkness to look at the night sky and map constellations, they did so through storytelling and illusion, transporting themselves to far away places.

Each year, the Scottish Outdoor & Adventure Film Tour brings together filmmakers, adventurers, and outdoor lovers to celebrate the best of Scotland’s wild landscapes and the people who explore them. Founded by two filmmakers in 2023, the tour began with a simple idea: Scotland deserves its own platform to showcase home-grown adventure films.
